Finally! They are four: an Italian Superior General, a Beninese Vicar General, an Indian and a Polish General Councilors. It is the new Leadership team that will ensure the unity of missionary activity of the Society of African Missions for the next six years.

The composition of this team reflects the international nature of the SMA which brings together members, young and old, from around the world. All are united by their common response to the call of the Spirit, making the proclamation of the Good News to the poor, their ideal of life.

Yesterday, missionaries left the West to evangelize the distant lands of the southern hemisphere; today, the Churches of these mission lands have missionaries in their turn and participate, with the universal Church, in the challenges of the mission today. Fr. Antonio Porcellato, Superior General, made an important point in his message addressed to Pope Francis at the audience on May 17, delegates to the 21st General Assembly when he said: "For example, we must provide the necessary qualified personnel and sufficient financial resources to provide adequate training to the approximately 300 seminarians. In addition, as we renew the priority interest for Africa and people of African origin, we believe it is important to continue our presence in Europe and America with renewed missionary zeal. We would like to face these challenges with the hope that comes from the Gospel. "

In his response, the Holy Father encouraged the African Missions to go forward, to continue the work of the Lord in the footsteps of Bishop de Brésillac and Fr. Augustine Planque, faithful its charism of primary evangelization "Among the most remote rural populations, where the Christian community is still fragile, or even non-existent". This task, the new Superior General and his Council, will strive to fulfill with faith and hope.
